Part\wh is not theatre, not a game, but an experiential construct which shifts and re-imagines the boundaries between the art, theatre, and the internet. The participant’s last choice drives each construct. The work asks how each choice that we make, whether conscious or otherwise, affects us and others around us. contrary wagon breaks the boundaries of the art mediums we are familiar with, in an experiment to create new forms of making. Because time and space is undefined, and unconstrained in a post-Covid world where the digital can be experienced anywhere, and everywhere.

At an intersection of two lines of vision—one gazing up into the blinding sunshine and the other gaze is a nosedive from the skies into the unknown, this is where the contrary wagon was built.
However, the contrary wagon is also when these visions enjoy their incongruity. When does this space no longer exist? Where does this point exactly meet? Until they decide to continue their gaze, these answers will remain unanswered.
contrary wagon is a collective consisting of Henrik Cheng and Tan Weiying.
Henrik Cheng (Co-devisor)
Henrik Cheng is a “theatre generalist” from New York based in Singapore. They had the fortunate experience to take on the role of: a venue coordinator with New Orleans Fringe, a facilitator & deviser in “Speakcryptic’s The Tribe” at SIFA OPEN, performer & deviser in “Attempts: SG” for the M1 Fringe, graduate from the Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI) in 2017, and creative technical consultant for "A Long Distance Affair" with PopUp Theatrics. Henrik personally gravitates towards works aiming to provide hope, healing, and to encourage positive and proactive change.
Tan Weiying (Co-devisor)
Tan Weiying has been involved in theatre ever since she joined the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe (SHHKACT) at the age of 5. She conducts drama classes with children aged 3-7, facilitates theatre workshops with senior citizens, and acts/directs. Her current practice explores the creation of imagery with bodies in space. Weiying is a graduate of the Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI) (Class of 2017).
Tysha Khan (Dramaturg)
Tysha Khan is an artistic force, known for her versatile acting and powerful writing. With this project, she takes her first steps into the field of dramaturgy. Having recently completed the Dramaturgs’ Practice Development course by Robin Loon with Centre 42, she is excited to put her training to good use. As part of her education in the Intercultural Theatre Institute, she also studied under renowned playwright & dramaturg Kaite O'Reilly. Tysha believes the role of a dramaturg is to get everyone on the same page, and to make that page the best page it can possibly be.
