George Bailey stands on Bedford Falls bridge, contemplating ending his life. Thankfully, Clarence a second class angel, who after 200 years has yet to earn his wings, is sent to the rescue!
However, it’s not that simple. Clarence is taken on a whistle stop tour through important events in George’s life. Eventually, Clarence watches a despairing George, thinking that his wife Mary, his mother, and others he loves would be better off with him dead. Clarence is finally sent to show George what things would have been like if he had never been born. In a nightmarish vision in which the town, now Pottersville, has Henry Potter as it's ruling elite, those George loves are either dead, ruined, or miserable.
George realises that he has touched many people in a positive way and that his life has truly been a wonderful one!
