THE SUBSTATION'S SEPTFEST IS HERE AGAIN!

Since 1990 when The Substation was founded by Kuo Pao Kun, we’ve kept faith with his vision of nurturing experimentation, innovation and diversity in the arts. We’ve enabled emerging talent as well as championed challenging artists. This year, as always, SeptFest is a showcase of the art that we love and support. As we look ahead to the next 18 years – of more drinking, smoking, and other adult vices… no, seriously… we also look back and reflect on how we’ve grown up with the local arts community and the roads we’ve travelled together.

Come and celebrate our 18th birthday – everyone’s welcome!

Aya Sekine (pictured) is an energetic, quirky, experimental jazz pianist who will be performing with Budi & Riduan Zalani (Wicked Aura Batucada), Tan Boon Gee and Yuta Nakayama. As Aya experiments with rhythms with Budi on Repinique (Brazilian snare drum), and Boon Gee on drum set, Riduan will trigger his handheld Brazilian percussion instruments, especially his Pandeiro (very close to tambourine but with more sizzles and depth in sound), with his electro gadgets. Whilst Aya embraces all the beats and pushes the edge with her analogue synthesizers and gadgets, Yuta Nakayama will improvise his innovative home-made gadgets that stole his show with Aya at the Choppa Festival held at LASALLE College of the Arts. It’s a mad new JUNGLE, it’s a wonderful mayhem that will exist for one night only.
