FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH, MAY – DECEMBER 2017
SOME WORKSHOPS RUN FOR MULTIPLE SESSIONS

Workshop programmes equip citizens to better navigate the codes and rules of the city, either through authoring the city through interventions, or reclaiming their ability to design and actively shape the spaces that they live in. Collectively, these programmes question: how may the city be made more open, easily usable and adaptable?

FOOD.SPACE.DESIGN TAKEOVER
5 & 12 MAY 2017

Facilitator Ng Hui Ying

If eating is a communal activity, then food spaces – spaces where food is cultivated, transported, prepared, cooked and eaten – are common spaces. How do we think about such spaces and their design? How can we integrate food spaces better with our daily lives? In session 1, participants look at learnings from an urban farm set-up in the city. By visiting a selected site, participants will decide on some principles needed for building common food spaces. In session 2, participants work with these principles from session 1 to sketch ideas or prototypes that help them imagine how such spaces may function.Sketches from session 1 and 2 will be worked into material that can be used to inform future work in the area with on-the-ground stakeholders. This workshop is open to all.

WHAT WILL WE WEAR?
UNIFORMS FOR SINGAPORE IN 2065
2 JUNE 2017

Facilitator Justin Zhuang

From the school uniform to this season’s must have accessory, fashion embodies codes and cultures that discipline the bodies and communities that they adorn. What are the “uniforms" commonly worn (but not always recognised) in Singapore today, and how might values, norms and expectations be woven into their design? This workshop is no mere trend-spotting exercise, but ventures into the world of design fiction to speculate what uniforms we will need to live in Singapore come 2065.

This workshop is open to all.

BODY POLITICS | BODIES IN SPACE
4, 7 & 14 AUGUST 2017

Facilitator Chan Sze-Wei

Our bodies are physical, but also social constructions. They carry relationships, norms, values, habits and questions. What are our relationships today, and what could they be in the future? This series of movement workshops offer a space where participants can sensitise themselves to concealed questions of their bodies, and start thinking about the politics of the bodies of the city. With contact improvisation and somatic dance practices as a basis, the workshops will work with touch and movement as relational practices, and explore ideas about group identity and exclusion, personal and societal space, privilege and power. The material for these workshops has been devised in dialogue with other practitioners of the international Radical Contact community.

No prior dance experience required. Bodies of all identities and all abilities are welcome.

HOW SAFE ARE WE?
SECURITY AND TRESPASSING IN THE CITY
6 OCTOBER 2017

Facilitators Yvette Koh & LockpickSG

There is a materials surcharge of $15 which entitles each participant to a training lock and lock-pick set.

The more property and possessions people amass, the more there is the desire to secure and guard these against trespassing and theft. Yet how much confidence can people place in security mechanisms to keep themselves and their property safe? This workshop consists of two parts: the first examines how the fear of trespassing has influenced how we read, design, and inhabit our built environment; the second unpacks the role of the lock as the symbol and act of security.

This workshop is open to all. All participants will receive a training lock and lock-pick set.
